Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley are great places for families to enjoy the outdoors together. There’s always something fun to do, whether it be a festival, exploring state parks and beaches, or shopping at some of the unique boutiques and restaurants the region has to offer. 

Families, take note: here are the best things to do in Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz, California in Spring, 2022. 



Explore Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

If you’re wanting to go camping in Santa Cruz, then you have to put Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park on your list. Perfectly positioned in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the park's famous old-growth redwood trees draw visitors from all over the world.

You can easily make a day out of exploring Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, even if you decide not to camp. Hike one of the many picturesque trails or hop on the redwood forest steam train that winds through the mountainsas conductors share the history of Roaring Camp, the railroad and the forest. The kids will absolutely love it! 

If you’re planning on visiting the park on June the 4th or 5th, then you can’t miss the annual Redwood Mountain Faire, featuring a wide range of musical talent on two stages with local food and vendors.

Shop the Scotts Valley Farmers Market 

One of the best things about Scotts Valley is its small town and communal charm. Several family-run businesses in Scotts Valleycarry an array of unique handmade crafts and goods made by local artisans and makers. 

You can shop local artists and vendors at the Scotts Valley Farmers Market every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm at the Scotts Valley Community Centre at 360 Kings Village Drive.  

Don’t forget to bring your favorite tote and fill it up with fresh locally grown produce and delicious homemade baked goods. It’s a great experience for children to learn the farm-to-table effect, especially if you make dinner with the veggies you buy! 




Spend the Afternoon at Mount Hermon Adventures

Families who are more on the active side love spending the day at Mount Hermon Adventures in Mount Hermon, just ten minutes West of Scotts Valley. Equipped with aerial courses with swinging logs, zip lines up to 440 ft long, and two sky bridges- these challenging but fun courses are the ultimate family team-building experience. 


Mount Hermon Adventures isn’t for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights, as you will be spending the majority of your time 30 to 80 feet in the air. With that being said, it’s a great opportunity to expose children to new heights and help grow their confidence. Get a Free Family Mini Photo Session 

Shoott is a collective of female photographers who offer free thirty-minute sessions on select weekends where you only pay for the photos that you love. Sounds pretty great, right? They’re offering free family mini photo sessions in Felton on May 14, 2022, and at the Santa Cruz Lighthouse on May 29, 2022.

 


 

Children grow up so fast, it’s nice to capture their stages of development every year or two with professional photos that you’ll keep in your family forever. Start the Weekend off Right at Food at Food Truck Friday

Food Trucks a Go Go is celebrating its seventh season of Food Truck Friday this year at Skypark at 361 Kings Village Road in Scotts Valley. 

Food Truck Friday takes place on the last Friday of every month and is the perfect opportunity to try a variety of local foods from local vendors. Rather than having to decide on one restaurant the whole family will like, everyone can take their pick from the rotating lineup of food trucks. 

 

Food isn’t the only reason to check out Food Truck Friday though. There is also live music and even a Beer and Wine Garden for Mom and Dad. Even furry family members are welcome if they’re kept on a leash.
